Aptos launched its mainnet in 2022, built by a team from Meta's former Diem project. Like Sui, it uses the Move programming language, chosen for safety around digital assets, and it processes transactions in parallel to achieve high throughput with low fees.
Its focus is performance and reliability at scale, targeting payments, DeFi and consumer applications. Aptos has pursued partnerships in payments and tokenized assets, positioning itself as infrastructure that traditional firms could build on as well as crypto-native projects.
APT, the native token, pays gas fees, is staked to secure the network through delegated Proof-of-Stake, and is used in governance. Its supply is uncapped with scheduled staking rewards, so circulating supply grows over time on a published release schedule.
As a younger layer-1, Aptos is higher-risk than the established majors, but it is listed on most large exchanges, so APT is easy to buy with fiat and often available to stake. Its price is volatile and not guaranteed by adoption.
