Shiba Inu launched in 2020 as a meme token styled after Dogecoin, built as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. A large initial supply was sent to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, who burned most of it and donated the rest, a moment that became part of the token's lore and helped it gain attention.
