BNY Mellon adds USDC minting and redemption to institutional custody platform

BNY, the world's largest custodian bank with $59.3 trillion in assets, now lets institutional clients mint, redeem, store and transfer USDC directly through its platform.

  • BNY clients can now convert USD to USDC and redeem it back to dollars directly through the bank's custody platform.
  • The bank already serves as primary custodian of USDC reserve assets, deepening its partnership with Circle.
  • USDC is the second-largest stablecoin with over $73.8 billion in circulation.
  • BNY plans to expand the service to additional stablecoins and digital cash workflows.
  • The move follows similar stablecoin infrastructure launches by JPMorgan, State Street and Fidelity.
