Ethereum's Glamsterdam upgrade enters final development phase, one of the biggest changes since the Merge

Ethereum developers are testing all planned EIPs for the Glamsterdam upgrade on devnets, marking the final phase before public testnets. The upgrade includes enshrined PBS, block-level access lists, and major gas repricing.

  • Glamsterdam is expected to go live in the second half of 2026, described as the largest fork since the Merge.
  • Enshrined Proposer-Builder Separation (ePBS) moves MEV handling onchain to reduce centralization risks.
  • Block-level Access Lists let clients preload data, making execution faster and more predictable.
  • Gas repricing will make high-level compute cheaper and state access more expensive.
  • Developers are running devnets with all EIPs before moving to public testnets.
