Kraken launches US perpetual futures as crypto derivatives go onshore

Kraken now offers CFTC-regulated perpetual futures to US customers through Kraken Pro, bringing a $60 trillion global product onshore for the first time.

  • Perpetual futures let traders take long or short positions on crypto without an expiration date, and they generated over $60 trillion in volume globally last year.
  • The contracts are listed on Bitnomial, a CFTC-regulated exchange Kraken's parent company acquired earlier this year.
  • Initial offerings cover bitcoin, ether and solana, with plans to expand the range of contracts and collateral options.
  • The CFTC cleared the path in May by approving Kalshi's bitcoin perpetual contracts and issuing guidance for regulated platforms.
  • Kraken has been building derivatives infrastructure through acquisitions including NinjaTrader and Bitnomial.
